The Coast          Inland            Lille

As the Gateway to England and Belgium, this northern corner of France is buzzing with business and industries, with the large, Euro-oriented city of Lille offering great culture as well as a new hi-tech district. Yet peace and quiet is never far away. It is a region with plains, hills, hedged farmlands, swamps, a lovely coast with wild beaches, a network of waterways for river cruising, forests and woods,  wide-open spaces of unspoilt countryside that make up the Regional Natural Parks, magnificent historic cities, windmills, and more than 200 castles.

It is also a region proud of its traditions where fairs, fêtes and festivals are so much a part of daily life. And the traditional hospitality of the people of Northen France is famous. It is impossible for newcomers to feel isolated for long !
