Alsace

At the Northeast frontier of France, bordered by the Rhine, Alsace offers magnificent forests, quaint villages and rich wines. The route du vin is one of the region's many scenic routes. It is particularly popular during the wine harvest festivities but is worth visiting in any season.

Haut-Koenigsbourg castle

This gigantic fortified castle is very impressive at 757 meters (2498ft), high up in the mountains.

From the terraces of the castle, the view is one of the best from the Vosges Mountains.
